Great article. I own a property which i rent out as a house share. When you have 3-4 people living in a house you are always concerned about what they might do. This all sounds too familiar.

Good article. Another factor to consider is the psychological toll. Even though we use a property management company for our two properties, my wife is always worried about the tenants doing a great deal of damage.

I found a property management company to take care of my properties at a decent cost. It was probably the best move I ever made because now I don’t get hassled all hours of the night by my renters.

The worst thing about being a landlord is having to evict somebody. It is a lot of hassle and can be very time consuming. That’s nothing compared to the fact that it just breaks my heart to have to kick somebody out of their house. I will try to help and do all that I can to avoid it but I have bills to pay too.

I agree, owning a rental property needs alot of attention and caring especially if you yourself is tight in budget being good to the tenants and providing them a nice service will help you make them stay alot longer.

While you can make good money in the Real Estate rental market, you need to make sure you are up for all the challenges you mention. You especially need to realize that you can be called at all hours and your property inevitably will need repairs and upkeep at some point.

You cannot understate what you said about renting though. Being on call 24-7 may sound trying, but manageable, until you do it. It can quickly go from trying, but manageable, to frustrating, AND unmanageable.
